MAX3250 is a 3.0V to 5.5V power supply, ± 50V isolated EIA/TIA-232 and V.28/V.24 communication interface with high data rate capability. MAX3250 is a dual-mode component that operates with a difference of up to ± 50V between the RS-232 side and the logic side (ISOCOM to GND). This makes the device very suitable for working under high common mode voltage noise conditions. If the RS-232 line is accidentally short circuited to the+24V or ± 48V power bus, this function will not damage the device.
MAX3250 is powered by a single 3V to 5.5V power supply on the logic side. The power supply is transferred from the logic side to the isolation side through an external capacitor of ± 100V.
MAX3250 has two receivers (Rx) and two drivers (Tx), ensuring operation at a data rate of 250kbps while maintaining RS-232 output level. This transceiver has a proprietary low dropout transmitter output stage, providing true RS-232 performance from 3V to 5.5V supply with dual charge pumps. This device has a faulty open drain output to display excessive isolation side voltage of any RS-232 input. This output can drive alarm LEDs or be monitored by the processor to prevent operation under these conditions. The receiver output has high impedance during shutdown, allowing for multiple interfaces (IrDA RS-232, RS-485) connected to the same UART.
MAX3250 has a space saving 28 pin SSOP package.
